ISNA Offers Condolences on the Passing of American Muslim Leader, Pioneer Dr. Maher Hathout
The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) today offered heartfelt condolences on the passing of American Muslim community leader and pioneer Dr. Maher Hathout.
In a statement ISNA President Azhar Azeez said:
"It is indeed a very sad day for all of us and a great loss to the American Muslim diaspora. He was a legend in his own right, and a teacher and mentor to many activists around the country. "
Dr. Maher Hathout was by profession a cardiologist, but was instrumental in the founding of several Muslim organizations and institutions including: the Islamic Center of Southern California, Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), New Horizon Islamic school and other initiatives. Dr. Hathout was a recipient of the 2014 ISNA Community Hero Award at the 3rd Annual West Coast Education Forum Banquet.
